Senses are often thought to function in harmony. And when performing activities geared toward the use of a specific sense, we often associate the outcome of the experience to solely reflect its intended purpose. In the process, what is sometimes undiscovered is the potential to inform inclusivity while enhancing responses in behavior when combing and merging technologies.

“Headphones” takes inspiration from a life-sized audio headset to further investigate our sense of sound, questioning its visibility and the extent of which our physical experience of listening is shaped by elements in design. Audio qualities are intended to become integrated with touch and sensitivity to the surface of the ears if worn around the head, linking multiple aspects of the sensory experience.

This piece was created to act as a model for a working design and was made with 3D printed resin set in hydraulic-pressed hollow forms, detailed with twisted and coiled chain links.
